Svitzer/Smit-Lamnalco Agreement extended to 2020 and Brisbane

In mid-2015 Svitzer and Smit-Lamnalco entered an agreement that saw Svitzer provide service delivery on behalf of Smit-Lamnalco in the Ports of Melbourne, Botany and Newcastle. Both parties maintained their own commercial activities and continued to compete for volumes in these ports. The agreement commenced mid-2015 and was due to expire mid-2018.

Svitzer and Smit-Lamnalco have renewed the existing arrangement in the Ports of Melbourne, Botany and Newcastle by an additional 2 years until mid-2020, and extended the arrangement to the Port of Brisbane. Svitzer will charter one of Smit-Lamnalco’s tugs, the Murrumbidgee, to service the additional volume in the Port of Brisbane.

Steffen Risager, Managing Director of Svitzer Australia, said:

“We are pleased to announce the extension of our existing agreement with Smit-Lamnalco at the Ports of Melbourne, Botany and Newcastle until mid-2020. Svitzer has maintained high service delivery at those ports for the duration of this arrangement, since its inception in mid-2015. We are committed to continue to deliver under the agreement, which will now extend to Brisbane from February 2018.
The extension means we will continue to facilitate and promote efficient operations in each of the Ports, preserving competition by both parties who will continue to maintain their direct relationship with customers. We see this as a good solution for the industry and part of our contribution to safer and more efficient ports in Australia”.

The new agreement including operations at Brisbane is scheduled to commence in February 2018.
