Svitzer was proud to attend the inauguration ceremony of our two new pilot boats in the Port of Sohar on 7 October 2019.
Thank you to her highness Sayyida Al Said and Esther Groenewegen, the wife of Sohar Port and Freezone CEO, Mark Geilenkirchen, for christening the two boats – Svitzer Majan and Svitzer Al Bateel.
The boats were built by Besiktas Shipyard in Turkey. They are Camarc Design pilot boats equipped with two Caterpillar engines and are each capable of carrying 12 people. We are honoured to be providing towage and pilot boat services to the Port of Sohar, which is the lifeline of the Sultanate of Oman with more than 80% of Oman’s import and export trade coming through the port, for many years to come.
Sohar being part of our Svitzer AMEA region (Africa, Middle East and Asia) where we serve our customers across 10 countries with our regional fleet of 60 vessels.
