Leading electrification in our industry

First E-tug now operating in Scandinavia

Svitzer Ingrid is equipped with a battery of 1,808 kWh, which is equivalent to the battery capacity of 23 modern electric cars. Additionally, the Svitzer Ingrid has a conventional diesel engine.

Sanmar Shipyard and Robert Allan LTD have developed the design of the low and no-emission tug utilizing alternative fuels and innovative technological advances.

Supporting customers in Denmark and Sweden

Svitzer Ingrid will operate in of the Sound and perform towage jobs in Helsingborg, Landskrona and Copenhagen.

As of now, she will be charged at the charging facilities in Helsingborg. The process of getting charging facilities in Copenhagen is ongoing.

  • Svitzer Ingrid will provide towage services to containers, bulk, tankers, car carriers and ferries.
  • We are expecting Svitzer Ingrid to be able to perform two tug jobs per charging based on her operation pattern in Helsingborg.
  • She will be charged between jobs, while the crew is on rest.

Driving emissions reduction

Our strategic focus on Behaviour, Equipment and Fuel will enable us to make impactful short-term changes and develop data-driven and innovative solutions that will drive further emission reductions in the future.

Svitzer Ingrid is Svitzer’s first fully battery-powered tug. Further, we have ordered one large battery tug for escorting large tankers and container vessels in Gothenburg and surrounding ports with delivery in the first quarter of 2026, and we are in the market for four additional battery tugs.
